The Night Watch softball team took the silver medal at the Nebraska State Cornhusker Games in Lincoln July 20.

Night Watch, consisting primarily of active duty members from Offutt and Air Force retirees, formed this spring and played in the Sunday night league in Council Bluffs, Iowa with a record of seven wins and one loss.

Night Watch competed against 24 other teams from all over Nebraska in the State Games and held up against the fierce competition.

In order to compete in the Medal Round July 20, the team had to post a perfect 4 wins July 19. They won their first game of the Medal Round by beating Lancaster 12 to 11. Senior Airman Rick Northrop scored the winning run in that game.

However, the winning streak couldn't continue forever and Night Watch fell to the East Street Gang in the final game. Command Chief Master Sergeant (ret.) Ben Heald attributes the team's success to a blend of experience and speed.
