The Law Center provides professional legal support and advice to command and other staff agencies on a variety of issues including military justice, contracts, labor, environmental and operations law. We also provide legal advice and assistance on personal and civil matters to military members, retirees and their family members.
The Offutt AFB Law Center is supported by military attorneys, paralegals and civilians. Using this Web site is not a substitute for consulting with an attorney about a specific legal problem you may have.

Limitations on Legal Assistance
Legal Assistance JAGs cannot represent you in court or in administrative proceedings. We cannot provide assistance in the following areas: Issues involving personal commercial enterprises; Law of Armed Conflict issues; Official matters in which the U.S. Air Force has an interest or is involved in the final outcome; criminal matters; or questions regarding the USAF Standards of Conduct.

PCS Related Household Goods Claims
The DD Form 1840 / 1840R (pink form) must be submitted to the carrier within 70 days after delivery of a household goods shipment. This process can now be done online at https://claims.jag.af.mil. The online process only applies to Air Force sponsored moves. Members unable to file online may bring their pink forms to the claims office M - Th / 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Questions regarding the new process may be addressed to the Air Force Claims Service Center at 1-877-754-1212 (24 / 7 customer service line).

The Operations Law Division generally refers to legal rules applicable in actual military operations. It is normally defined as that body of domestic, foreign and international law that impacts the activities of U. S. Armed Forces in war and operations other than war.
Commanders must ensure their personnel are trained to comply with the Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC). All military personnel must accomplish this training every 20 months.

These items are 'Out of Scope for Offutt VITA' and will not be handled for the 2019 Tax Year / 2020 Tax Season. For a list of Out of Scope items, click here. We are mandated by the IRS to perform 100% photo ID and Social Security card check for all taxpayers and dependents listed on the return. We will accept a photo copy of the Social Security Cards. Please bring your 2018 tax return with you to your tax appointment. We will not begin the return without all the documents required. We are limiting the types of returns we prepare and those we can serve.
- Spouses with a Power of Attorney (POA) can start the return process without the other spouse present. Social Security Cards are still required for each individual listed on the tax return.
- Parents with a Power of Attorney may file returns for dependent children, but the Social Security Card is still required. Any questions or concerns, please call 294-3759.
