About the Program

Offutt's Honorary Commander program offers an opportunity for local leaders to gain firsthand insight into the mission and operations of Offutt Air Force Base. 

  • ​Purpose: Build partnerships with local civic leaders and share knowledge on the United States Air Force and Offutt Air Force Base.

  • Community Connection: Maintain and enhance positive relationships between Offutt AFB and the local community.

  • Advisory Forum: A platform for Offutt AFB commanders to seek advice and support from civic leaders on military and community matters.

Member Responsibilities

Assignments: Honorary commanders are paired with unit leadership from around the base. Including but not limited to...

  • 55th Wing
  • 557th Weather Wing
  • 95th Wing
  • Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA)

Event Participation:

  • Attend on-base and unit functions (ie. air shows, base tours, awards ceremonies, changes of command, and holiday events).
  • Immerse in the assigned unit’s mission and share your experiences and expertise with Airmen.

** The first official event 'Team Offutt Honorary Commanders' will attend is the 55th Wing Change of Command ceremony in June 2025. **

Role Importance: This is a single, two-year term. Half of the first group will serve three-year a term. Members will serve as a committed liaison between Offutt AFB and the community, representing a range of sectors, including education, business, civic organizations, while maintaining continuity.

Nominations: Nominate yourself or another community leader!

Applications: The 2025 application window will be May 5 to May 30, 2025. Download an application from HERE. Applications can be sent to 55wg.pa@us.af.mil starting May 5, 2025.

Eligibility Requirements

Must Be

  • An U.S. Citizen of outstanding character, integrity, and patriotism.
  • A leader in local, regional, or national community affairs.
  • Able to provide insights to senior Air Force leaders.
  • Capable of disseminating information about the Air Force.
  • Willing to devote regular time as a civic leader.

Cannot Be

  • A federal government employee. 
  • A federally elected or appointed official (local officials considered on a case-by-case basis).
  • An active member of the National Guard or Ready Reserve.
  • A retired military member.
  • A paid employee of any political party or candidate.
  • Holding financial interests that conflict with civic leadership roles or involved with DoD contracts.
