Accountability ensures Lethality

The 55th Logistics Readiness Squadron’s equipment accountability element and customer support team recently completed a one-hundred percent physical inventory inspection of all equipment and vehicles in preparation for the Department of Defense’s Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness inspection for 2027.

The inspection marks the largest AF-wide inventory in recent history yet was accomplished two years early.

On a day-to-day basis, the equipment accountability element works directly with unit equipment custodians to ensure they have the right equipment on hand to accomplish the mission. However, in the last two months this small yet efficient team re-focused their energy and efforts to ensure Offutt Air Force Base was successful in accomplishing this daunting task.

“This was a floor-to-book and a book-to-floor accounting,” said Tina Johnson, 55th LRS customer support superintendent. “We accounted for all of our equipment on our lists as well as all physical equipment that we currently have.”

With 128 different accounts on base totaling nearly 12,000 assets valued over $16 million, this was no easy feat; but they were relentless and ready to excel. The equipment accountability element and customer support team led roughly 275 equipment custodians across the installation to make this happen.

“Equipment accountability is and will always be critical to readiness and delivering lethality.” said Lt. Col. Caitlin Oviatt, 55 LRS commander. “To execute any mission successfully, you need to have the right equipment, at the right place, at the right time, and it needs to work. Equipment accountability is a team sport, when accounts are accurate, then real time data-driven decisions can be made both locally and enterprise wide to ensure desired mission outcomes are achieved.”
