Members of team Offuttgathered at the King Dining facility Sept. 17, 2010 to cut the Air Force birthday cake with their comrades-in-arms. Airmen of all ranks gathered to mark this definitive occasion in our proud history.

Each year on this day, we celebrate the historic birth date of the Air Force. Over the years, it has evolved into a massive air- dominating branch of the United States military. As aircraft weapon systems and facilities continue to strengthen and evolve one thing that has not changed are the customs and heritage represented by the U.S. Air Force.

"Make no doubt about it, the Air Force is the most lethal fighting force that ever existed," said Lt. Col. John Cooper, 55th Operations Group vice commander.
Colonel Cooper went on to rally morale from young Airmen standing by while adamantly making the point that we are part of something bigger than ourselves and follow a proud heritage.

Colonel Cooper also emphasized the Air Force's unprecedented dominance since its birth and its extreme capabilities to deliver air support like no other.

Master Sgt. Randy Marquart, non-commissioned officer in charge of the King Dining Facility worked for seven hours baking, icing and preparing the large birthday cake. According to Sergeant Marquart, he has made similar cakes four to five times in the past but is very excited that this will be his first Air Force birthday cake.

"As a senior NCO, I have been in long enough to see the evolution and advancement of the Air Force in many ways, such as the uniforms and aircraft," said Sergeant Marquart. "It has given me an understanding of what being an Air Force member truly means."
Others shared their excitement over the U.S. Air Force and what it means to truly serve their country.

"I'm just honored to be able to protect and serve my country, that's what it's all about," said Airman Chad Abeyta 83rd Aircraft Maintenance Unit crew chief. "As we celebrate, whether an airman basic or a senior noncommissioned officer, we can all take something special and important away from being a part of this prestigious branch each year."
