Great Western Bank's Offutt branch was recently named the 2011 Air Force Bank of the Year.

According to a press release, the branch was recognized for its exemplary level of service, financial training and willingness to partner with the Air Force in providing excellent customer service and responsiveness to the needs of the Offutt community.

"I feel that we are just doing what we are supposed to do, which is to do our best to take care of our military customers," said Jeremy Morong, branch manager. "To be recognized for that is very humbling and gratifying and it motivates us to want to do even better."

Each branch of the Department of Defense recognized their winners at the 2012 Association of Military Banks of America Fall Workshop in Seattle on Sept. 11. Jamie M. Morin, assistant secretary of the Air Force for financial management and comptroller, presented the Air Force award.

According to Morong, the Offutt branch has opened 284 new checking accounts over the past year and has roughly more than 3,000 overall. He said they strive to go above and beyond when serving military members.

"We really enjoy meeting new service members and educating them on how things like banking and credit work," he said.

Morong also added that one of the factors that were considered was the products offered compare to base banks.

"We offer a number of free products such as checking and savings account," he said. "We are also open seven days a week to take care of customers."

This is the first time Great Western Bank's Offutt branch has won the award and Morong said they will not rest on their laurels, but plan on maintaining their high standards of service to the military.

"We really love being on base and it is a great opportunity to do what little we can to make service member's lives easier," he said.
