OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- Recently around the installation there have been a series of anonymous attacks happening without any rhyme or reason.
The attacks, known as R.A.C.K. Attacks, are random acts of chapel sponsored kindness where the idea is nothing more than putting a smile on someone’s face and providing encouragement.
“Our emphasis is encouraging and empowering people to do random acts of kindness for the people around them,” Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Kevin Humphrey, 55th Wing Chaplain. “The goal is to mobilize the community to care for each other.”
The chapel team compiled 300 containers of goodies in May, which they have now been randomly passing out around the installation to the surprise of those receiving them.
“Each container contains a note telling them to enjoy the goodies but to then re-fill the tub and pass it on to another member of their squadron,” said Chaplain (1st Lt.) Philip O’Neill, 55th Wing Chapel. “This should encourage people to get out, but also to stay safe.”
Given the recent unrest in the United States, the R.A.C.K. Attacks seem very timely.
“These are difficult times,” Humphrey said. “My prayer is that America will come out of this stronger and more unified than ever and you just never know how something as simple as a R.A.C.K. Attack may improve someone’s day if only for a moment.”
“We would also encourage and challenge people across the wing to do their own random act of kindness,” Humphrey added. “Be intentional about showing acts of kindness and love to the people around you. Together we can all make a difference.”
