Offutt Airman recognized with Bronze Star Published Aug. 10, 2018 By Zachary Hada 55th Wing Public Affairs OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- A tactical radio supervisor, assigned to the 55th Strategic Communications Squadron was awarded the Bronze Star Medal Aug. 7, 2018, at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. The medal was presented to Tech. Sgt. William Adams for his meritorious achievements during a yearlong deployment to Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. The Bronze Star Medal, is a United States decoration awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone. “It is an honor to receive the Bronze Star Medal for my work,” Adams said. “It’s great to be recognized for our achievements, but at the end of the day I felt like I was only doing my job.” Adam’s served as senior enlisted advisor to the Kandahar Air Wing’s communication commander where his actions led to a 300 percent increase in advisor presence by completing installations of critical communication networks. “The accomplishments that have allowed me to achieve this honor would not be possible without the support from my friends, family and fellow Airmen,” Adams said. Adams aided in establishing infrastructure requirements for 2,000 personnel and 79 aircraft, including the first ever Afghan UH-60 helicopters, and directly led to the creation of an Afghan Air Force flight training campus. Adams actions contributed to the safe execution of 2,613 combat sorties, 63 successful airdrops and expending 996 munitions which ultimately resulted in a 229 percent year over year increase in operations in support of the Afghan Air Force Modernization program. Adams provided some advice for deploying communications Airmen. “For other Comm. Airmen being deployed, I would tell them to know their job inside and out, and they will be able to handle anything that comes their way,” said Adams.
