The 55th Wing commander held a special Consolidated Unit Inspection briefing at the Bennie Davis Maintenance Facility on Aug. 9.

His goal was to make sure the wing understood where they were in regards to preparation and the way ahead as they will participate in 10 inspections throughout September, nine simultaneously, including the CUI.

"We felt it was important to get the leadership together to make sure we have a good, consistent message going into the CUI," said U.S. Air Force Col. Gregory Guillot, 55th Wing commander.

All group, squadron and flight commanders; chiefs, superintendents and NCOICs; self-assessment program managers, wing to squadron level program managers and CUI leads were in attendance at the briefing.

During the briefing U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Nikki Nader, 55th Wing Exercises and Inspections chief, broke down the CUI grading criteria, reviewed recent past exercise results, and discussed some do's and don'ts for the upcoming inspections.

"We have some areas that we need to work on by September," she said. "However, we do a lot of good work here every day and we'll be ready by September."

In addition, she encouraged everyone to remind their teams to be SMART when being inspected.

S - Start it off right; Introduce yourself, your program and your team.

M - Make your pitch; Explain your program, how you are compliant, why any areas are non-compliant and your get-well plan.

A - Answer all questions and annotate deficiencies; If you don't know, find out on the spot. If you are unable, ask the inspector for their contact information and follow-up.

R - Recommend how to find the next office or unit; If you don't know, find out.

T - Talk to your teammates once the inspector is handed off; Let them know what they were interested in and where they are going next.

Guillot closed the briefing by saying he knows the Fightin' Fifty-Fifth is always prepared to fly, fight and win. Now they just need to show they do it the right way when they welcome the ACC Inspector General team to base.
