Force support relocates Published Oct. 16, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Rachelle Blake 55th Wing Public Affairs OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- Several base support functions recently relocated from Building C to Building 49. "The 55th Mission Support Group command section, 55th Force Support Squadron command section, including flight chiefs, military personnel section, Nonappropriated Fund Accounting, 55th Force Support Squadron Food Service Office, casualty assistance, and civilian personnel have moved in to date," said Thomas Fahrer, 55th FSS deputy director. "All of which, except civilian personnel, are up and running. Customer service hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m." So far, about half of the 55th FSS functions from Building C have made the move. "Other operations moving within the next two weeks will be NAF Human Resources, 55th FSS Unit Training, Manpower, 55th FSS Marketing, 55th FSS Readiness, and Retiree Affairs," Fahrer said. "We hope to be completed with the move in early November." The relocation is to allow for future demolition plans "The long-term plan is for Building C is to be demolished, so ultimately we had to find a new home for these operations," Fahrer said. "There were initial discussions for the 55th FSS and 55th MSG operations to go into Building 500 when U.S. Strategic Command moves into their new headquarters, but Building 49 became available and the location and renovated infrastructure made it a great fit." It also features additional parking, which Building C could not offer. "Between the three buildings on the east side of the parade ground, buildings 40, 49, and 88, there are approximately 415 personnel working in these facilities," Fahrer said. The surrounding parking lots and along the streets hold 630 parking spaces which is more than adequate for employees and customers. Customer parking, long-term, will be directly behind Building 49 and will be marked with signage. "In the interim, customers are encouraged to park in the parking lot on the west side of Building 49 off the parade ground and enter through the west side of the building," he added. The addition of some updated door hardware will make entry through the east side of the building more convenient soon for customers, he added. The hardware has been ordered and should be installed soon. Customers are encouraged to allow for possible extended wait times as the transition is made.
