Medical group operates dayroom facelift Published June 8, 2015 By Staff Sgt. Rachelle Blake 55th Wing Public Affairs OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- From the Airmen's Council to the Top Three, Airmen from across the 55th Medical Group's ranks came together to sponsor a renovation of the Kisling Hall dormitory's basement dayroom. From a coat of color on the walls to installing a brand new pool table, the team brought the room to life. "Some of our own Airmen live here and I thought this would be an opportunity to increase their morale and make them feel more at home," said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Denae Wimpee, 55th Aerospace Medicine Squadron. Wimpee led the team of Airmen who came in on their off-duty time to repaint the walls. "When I lived here, this was one of the first places I came to," said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Rene Venne, 55th AMDS. "There was always a good amount of Airmen hanging out down here and it was an easy way to meet people. A lot of Airmen come to the base alone, not knowing anyone." Venne, with the help of U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Daniell Rodriguez, 55th AMDS, took apart the old 800-pund pool table, transported it out of the room, and brought in the new 900-pound table and built it. "This project has been in the works for a few months," said U.S. Air Force Master. Sgt. Patrick Odom, 55th MDG first sergeant. "The 55th Medical Group Top Three provided funds to purchase the 55th Medical Group and its respective squadron emblems to be proudly displayed." The dayroom is expected to get new furniture within the next few months and the medical group hopes to continue their efforts by providing complimentary snacks. "I am very happy with the way this turned out," said U.S. Air Force Col. Stephen Mounts, 55th MDG commander. "But it isn't about making me happy; it is about making life better for the Airmen. I am very impressed that the Airmen who don't even live here anymore, wanted to make this happen."
