OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- The 55th Wing is scheduled to celebrate the U.S. Air Force Birthday Ball September 22, 2018, in Omaha, Nebraska.
By some accounts military balls are thought to have started sometime during the 16th century in England.
“Every year we celebrate the U.S. Air Force birthday with a ball,” said Master Sgt. Jacqueline Marquez, 55th Security Forces Squadron, superintendent of logistics and resources. “The Air Force Ball is an event where Offutt Air Force Base members come together to celebrate and honor the importance of the Air Force mission and reflect this day in history.”
The Birthday Ball Committee set this year’s theme to celebrate the hero’s among us and acknowledge their accomplishments and contributions in the community. The committee is encouraging the nomination of Airmen who have had a positive impact.
All submitted nominee names will be recognized in the printed program. A select few of the nominees will be asked to stand during the ball as they are recognized for their accomplishments and their nomination narrative is read aloud.
"The committee developed this theme to recognize not only the heroes of our past but also the Airmen who are silent heroes who serve amongst us on this installation," said Master Sgt. Paul Erickson, 55th Contracting Squadron section chief of services. "Throughout the evening of the ball we will recognize those silent heroes. We are asking everyone to nominate their local hero."
“The United States Air Force has a proud and remarkable history,” says Marquez. “The additional focus this year is saluting our heroes.”
