Grandfather’s World War II legacy continued by pilot grandson

2nd Lt. Harry Burdette(top right), 379th Bombardment B-17 Flying Fortress pilot, shown here with his crew at Kimbolton, England, is the grandfather of Capt. Shawn, an RC-135 Rivet Joint pilot from the 55th Wing at Offutt AFB, Nebraska and flying for the 763rd Expeditionary Reconnaisance Squadron. His grandfatherarrived at Kimbolton in Sept. 1943 and was shot down in late Nov. during a mission over Germany. He became a prisoner of war for the next 18 months.
