Offutt firefighters honor first responders of 9/11

Arpad Lepper, Offutt Air Force Base Fire Department station chief and ceremonial guardsman, rings a bell to honor those who were lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks during a 9/11 memorial tribute held Sept. 11 at the Offutt Air Force Base main fire station. The “Four Fives” tradition, also referred to as the “5-5-5-5” code, was adopted from New York firefighters and has been used in firehouses since as late as 1865. The ringing of the bell honors all who were lost and never found. (U.S. Air Force photo by Jeff W. Gates/Released)
