Merlin Radar

Airmen assigned to the 55th Wing’s Flight Safety office tour the new Merlin Radar placed on the North side of the base runway Jan. 23, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. The new radar detects birds in and around the active runway. Bird migrations pose a significant threat to the wing’s aircraft with a single bird collision costing millions of dollars in damage and the threat of lives lost.
