JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq - Chaplain (Col.) Carl Swanson, 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing senior chaplain, tosses dirt into the air as part of his benediction during a groundbreaking ceremony here May 4. The groundbreaking was held to celebrate the construction of Red River Place, a new social ministry center attached to Freedom Chapel that will enhance the morale and welfare of servicemembers living on the west side of JBB. The facility is named in honor of the seven Soldiers from 2-149 Aviation General Support Aviation Battalion who died in a helicopter crash during Mission "Red River 44" in 2008 while they were deployed here.
