Where the rubber meets the runway

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - Isaac Balaun, an aircraft mechanic in the 55th Maintenance Squadron's isochronal phase inspection dock, packs wheel bearings with grease Oct. 15 to keep them from overheating once a wheel is installed on an aircraft. In addition to working in the ISO dock in the Bennie Davis Maintenance Facility, the approximately 40 aircraft maintainers also work in the wheel and tire back shop when necessary. Each year maintainers process about 400 wheels and tires for C-135 variant and E-4B aircraft here. U. S. Air Force photo by Charles Haymond
