POW/MIA Luncheon; Offutt AFB; charles haymond

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - During the 16th Annual Prisoner of War/Missing in Action remembrance ceremony held at the Patriot Club Oct. 13, medallions were presented to several former POWs and survivng family members. As part of the ceremony, a POW/MIA table is set by the Offutt Honor Guard with specific symbolic items in rememberance and to honor all American former prisoners of war, servicemembers and civilians still unaccounted for, and their families. These items include a slice of lemon to represent the bitter fate of prisoners of war or those missing in action, a pinch of salt to represent the tears shed by the one missing or captured and their family, and an inverted glass showing the inability of those listed as POW/MIA to share in the toast for the evening.
