Homestead Days

Col. Kevin Dixon, 55th Wing vice commander, rides through downtown Beatrice, Neb., as the grand marshal of the 29th Annual Homestead Days parade along with Gary Higgins, a long-time Homestead Volunteer Ranger Corp member, June 16. Dixon also spoke at a ceremony commemorating 150 years of the Homestead Act, which was one of three federal laws that gave an applicant ownership at no cost of farmland called a “homestead” – typically 160 acres of undeveloped federal land west of the Mississippi River.
