The 2008 Combined Federal Campaign begins this month. This campaign is similar to the Air Force Assistance Fund campaign; however, it raises millions of dollars each year for non-profit civilian organizations rather than Air Force organizations.

Offutt's CFC runs from Sept. 29 through Nov. 7 with several events on base for service members and civilians who want to donate to the campaign.

The mission of the campaign is to "promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all," according to Capt. Peter Varney, 55th Wing CFC representative.

This year's local slogan is "$10 a month: One lunch can make a difference," and the wing has set its campaign goal at $350,000, the captain said.

"Even with today's gas and food prices, most people spend at least $10 a month frivolously," he said. "Why not use it to help your community and nation?"

As the campaign progresses, representatives will visit people in their units with information about various charitable organizations. These organizations include for example those which fight cancer, aide children with disabilities, further the research for heart disease and aid in search and recovery.

"Many of the organizations that participate in the Combined Federal Campaign have been extremely helpful to people during natural disasters, such as hurricanes Hannah and Ike," said Master Sgt. Stanley C. Cadell, 55th Medical Group first sergeant. "When people contribute to the CFC, the donations made come back to our military members two-fold or even three-fold."

Unit representatives will have this year's CFC catalogue along with donation forms for those who want to give. The catalogue lists local, national and international organizations, including some located on Offutt.
