Grannan 55th Wing Public Affairs OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- The 55th Contracting Squadron won Air Combat Command's Outstanding Large Contracting Unit award for 2008, making it the unit's second win in two years. The squadron executed 5,000 actions last fiscal year valued in excess of $1.6 billion. The 55th CONS provides vital contracting support not only to the 55th Wing, but also to all units on base, including the Air Force Weather Agency, U.S. Strategic Command and the Defense Technology Information Center. Our unit won this award because of our ability to successfully get the mission done in an efficient and timely manner, said Airman 1st Class Camber Valdes, 55th CONS contract specialist. "Without the dedication everyone displays on a daily basis, I'm not sure we could have done it," she added. Airman Valdes is not alone in sharing the credit for this achievement. "I'm honored and humbled to have this squadron recognized as the best large contracting squadron in ACC for 2007 and 2008," said Lt. Col. John Jacobson, 55th CONS commander. The credit goes to all the Airmen - uniformed and civilian - in the squadron as well as the senior leadership here at Offutt, he added. Additionally, individual accolades were presented to the following: Debra Simons won the ACC Secretary of the Air Force Professional in Contracting (supervisor) award, Sheila Rollins won the ACC SECAF Professional in Contracting (non-supervisor) award and the 55th CONS, Specialized Flight won the ACC Outstanding Pricing Team award.
