Warrior CARE event slated for Offutt Sept. 19 - 22 Published Sept. 8, 2016 Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- The Air Force Wounded Warrior Program, in coordination with the 55th Wing, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, will host a Warrior CARE event Sept. 19-22. The CARE event provides seriously wounded, ill and injured military members, veterans and their caregivers focused and personalized service through caregiver support training, adaptive and rehabilitative sports events, recovering airman mentorship training, and employment and career readiness guidance, along with music and art therapy. The most physical component of the event will be adaptive and rehabilitative sports, which are designed to introduce Wounded Warriors to adaptive sports to aid in their recovery and promote mental and physical wellness and teamwork. More than 80 wounded, ill or injured service members from around the country will train and compete in wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, swimming, air pistol and rifle shooting, archery and cycling as well as track-and-field competitions, including shot-put, discus and running events. Opening ceremonies will be held at the Offutt AFB Field House on Sept. 19 at 8 a.m. The event will culminate on Sept. 22 with sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball competitions between Offutt leadership and Air Force Wounded Warriors. A musical performance by Rock to Recovery and Air Force Wounded Warriors will follow the final competition. The Air Force Wounded Warrior Program, administered by the Air Force Personnel Center, is codified by law and is a federally funded organization responsible for providing personalized service, support and advocacy for the needs of seriously wounded, ill and injured Air Force men and women.
