TRICARE For Life Pharmacy Pilot Program Starts March 2014 Published Feb. 26, 2014 OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- After March 14, 2014, a pilot program will require TRICARE For Life beneficiaries to use TRICARE Pharmacy home delivery or a military pharmacy to fill prescriptions for select maintenance medications. This pilot program was a provision of the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act. On Feb. 18 TFL beneficiaries taking an affected medication started receiving letters notifying them of the pilot program. After the pilot program starts, they have two 30-day refills of their prescriptions covered at a retail pharmacy before they are responsible for 100 percent of the cost. Beneficiaries may call the TRICARE pharmacy contractor, Express Scripts, at 1-877-882-3335 to switch to home delivery or with questions about their medications. Some individuals are exempt, including people with another prescription drug plan, or people living outside the 50 United States. People living in a nursing home may contact Express Scripts to request a waiver. TRICARE Pharmacy home delivery is safe, convenient and easy to use. Home delivery offers beneficiaries a 90-day supply of their brand name medication for $13. Switching from these prescriptions from a retail pharmacy to home delivery can save TRICARE beneficiaries up to $152 a year for each prescription. Beneficiaries can also save by asking their doctor to write them a prescription for a generic version of their medication. "Although this pilot [program] is for members enrolled in TRICARE For Life, the home delivery program is an excellent choice for all TRICARE beneficiaries to get their maintenance medications," said Col. Stephen Mounts, 55th Medical Group commander. "Home Delivery is less expensive and more convenient than using a retail pharmacy, and allows members to be more proactive about getting medication refills. This innovative way of receiving medications is also a great alternative to the 55th Medical Group pharmacies at Offutt AFB, especially for those required to travel extended distances for base access. However, if members do wish to use our services, we encourage them to call ahead at 402-294-7358 or 402-294-3229 for information on how to process their medication requests." For the most recent information about the pilot program or to sign up for e-alerts with the latest updates, go to www.tricare.mil/tflpilot. In addition, as of April 1, the TRICARE Service Center at Erhling Bergquist Clinic will no longer be providing walk-in service. Beneficiaries can conveniently manage their benefits at home or "on the go" via secure websites. For example, on www.tricare.mil, beneficiaries can go to the "I want to..." section; this allows you to file or check a claim, view referrals and authorizations, change your primary care manager and more. Beneficiaries can also visit http://milconnect.dmdc.mil to update e-mail addresses in DEERS and view eligibility, enrollment information / cards and important information about benefits.
