The Defenders of Freedom Open House and Air Show is just around the corner and with acts such as the Blue Angels, the F-22 Raptors and the U.S. Navy "Leap Frogs" Parachute Team, this year is projected to be the biggest in its 41-year history.

With more than 100,000 patrons expected to attend on July 19 and 20, Offutt has teamed with the local community to provide several off-base parking options to include a free shuttle service to the complimentary show.

"What we hope for, more than anything, is for people to relax and enjoy the show our team has worked so hard to put together," said U.S. Air Force Maj. Brian Burger, Defenders of Freedom Open House and Air Show director. "This includes creating a stress-free mode of transportation from our designated parking areas right up to the show gates."

The off-base parking options include lots at the Southroads Technology Center, Bellevue University, Bellevue East High School and Bellevue West High School. The shuttles will run continuously from 8:45 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the last inbound shuttle running at 3 p.m.

For those still hoping to park on-base, parking will be available at the Air Force Weather Agency parking lot, which is located through the Bellevue Gate and behind the Sarpy County Museum. A shuttle service will also be available at this location to pick up spectators and transport them to the flight line. Additionally, handicap parking is provided on-base at the Field House Fitness Center.

For the safety of Offutt and its guests, all vehicles entering the base are subject to search.

"It is also important to note, backpacks, coolers and tote bags must be left in your vehicle and will not be allowed on the airfield," Burger said. "Small camera bags, purses, fanny packs and diaper bags are permissible and subject to a hand-search at the gate."

Lastly, attendees who wish to take a more eco-friendly mode of transport to the show, exclusive bike paths will be provided from the local community to a valet parking area 250 feet from the flight line.
