Nine Team Offutt senior master sergeants were selected for promotion to chief, Air Force Personnel Center officials announced Nov. 20.

Senior master sergeants Scott Butler, Air Force Weather Agency, Kellie Brisse, 20th Intelligence Squadron, William Cates, 55th Maintenance Group, Franklin Chism, 55th Communication Group, Philip Fischer, 55th Operations Group, Brandon Guzman, 55th OG, Timothy Hirsch, AFWA, Jason Klug, 445th Defense Courier Division, and Kevin Thompson, 55th OG, will all put on chief stripes within the next year.

"These nine individuals have reached the top enlisted grade and join an elite group of Air Force leaders who make up the top one percent of our enlisted force," said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Matthew Grengs, 55th Wing command chief. "I couldn't more excited for them and congratulate them on this accomplishment."

Air Force-wide, 479 senior master sergeants were selected out of 2,525 eligible for an 18.97 percent selection rate, according to AFPC.

"At this point in their career they've already shown tremendous leadership and mentorship ability," Grengs said. "But as the Air Force continues to face some difficult challenges, these nine chief selects will be looked upon often for guidance and direction from other senior leaders as well as from our younger Airmen."

Enlisted promotions are based on multiple weighted factors. This includes time-in-grade, time-in-service, enlisted performance reports, medals, promotion fitness exam and skills knowledge test for staff through master sergeants. In addition, selection board scores are also included.

The average score for those selected for chief master sergeant was 671.45, with an average time-in-grade of 3.21 years and time-in-service of 21.84 years. The average score for enlisted performance reports was 135. Average decorations score was 24.22, and the average Air Force Supervisory Exam score was 69.61. The average board score was 393.84.

Selectees will be promoted according to their promotion sequence number beginning in January. Selections are tentative until the data verification process is complete, which is not later than 10 days after the promotion release date. Airmen will be notified if their selection is in question.
