557th Weather Wing holds their Change of Responsibility Ceremony July 16, inside the wing auditorium at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. Chief Master Sgt. Daniel Perry, outgoing command chief, relinquished his duties and CMSgt Christopher Joyce assumed responsibility as the new 557th WW command chief.

The change of responsibility ceremony is a traditional event rich with symbolism and heritage. The key to the ceremony is the passing of the command’s colors. The very soul of a military unit is symbolized in the colors under which it fights, for they represent not only the lineage and honors of the organization but also the loyalty and unity of its personnel. The steward of the colors is the wing's command chief.

Senior Master Sgt. Darnall passed the colors to Perry in a final deference to his authority. Perry then passed the colors to Col. Hank Chilcoat, 557th WW commander, signifying the relinquishment of his duties and his gratitude for the opportunity to have served the Airmen and families of the 557th WW.

Chilcoat then passed the wing colors to Joyce, formally delegating authority and entrusting him with the responsibility and care of the 557th WW.

Joyce then passed the wing colors back to Senior Master Sgt. Darnall, symbolizing his acceptance of the charge and his dedication to ensuring the readiness, training, welfare, and quality of life for every member of the wing.
