Offutt's 2007 Defenders of Freedom Open House and Air Show 'took off' May 4 for the annual special needs air show - an opportunity for more than 300 special needs and Make-A-Wish children to be VIPs for a day.

From the reactions of these "VIPs" the many civilian and military aerobatic performances and flybys thrilled the crowd.

"Friday's show brought smiles to the faces of many of the area's Make-A-Wish and special needs children," said Maj. Dennis Shook, 2007 Defenders of Freedom Open House and Air Show director.

Because of the weather cancellation on Saturday, workers had to set up and tear down the exhibits and displays multiple times. Offutt effectively prepared for several air shows over the weekend, explained Major Shook.

"I was truly impressed with how well everyone pulled together to ensure we were able to provide the public the best show possible on Sunday."

Although weather once again forced air show officials to close the open house and air show early on Sunday, the air show director said it was still a success.

The estimated crowd of 50,000 was able to take advantage of a break in the weather to enjoy many of the aerobatic performances and tour the various static displays.
