OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- Firefighter Tommy Schroeder, 55 Civil Engineer Squadron fire protection, demonstrates what a firefighter would look like coming into a smoke filled house. Members of the Offutt Fire Station gave a tour to Birchcrest Elementary school students Oct. 8 as part of Offutt’s participation in National Fire Prevention Week. OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- Patches and his fire truck Pumper drive by to say “hi,” as Sparky the Firedog greets children from Birchcrest Elementary school during a field trip to the Offutt Fire Station Oct. 8 The Offutt Fire Station gave three to four tours a day to local schools this week as part of Offutt’s participation in National Fire Prevention Week. While at the fire station, students enjoyed fire safety videos, a demonstration of a firefighter in full gear including oxygen tank, a chance to go through the fire safety house during a simulated fire and a fire truck demonstrating the range of its water pumps.
