Two weeks remain to make a difference through CFC

The 2011 Combined Federal Campaign is coming to an end, so if you haven't signed up to participate already, time is quickly running out.

The CFC allows military, federal and postal employees to donate to local, national and international charities of their choice. This year the CFC is celebrating 50 years of raising money for non-profit civilian organizations.

Right now, the 55th Wing is at 90% of its goal with only $33,000 more needed to surpass it. If 275 people signed up to donate $10 a month through payroll deduction, the goal would be met.

"We have two weeks left to make a huge difference in thousands of people's lives and to hundreds of charitable organizations," said Brig. Gen. Donald Bacon, 55th WG commander and the 2011 Heart of the Midlands CFC chair for Nebraska and western Iowa.

"With a base our size, we can have an incredible impact on hurting individuals if each of us just puts in a couple of dollars a month," he added.

CFC was established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. It enables federal employees to donate to a charity from their paychecks, through their payroll system.

The 55th WG's CFC goal for 2011 is $330,000.

"By not eating lunch out one day a week and donating that money to a charity we can make a big difference in someone's life," said Maj. Leslie Karas, 55th Medical Operations Squadron and CFC lead for the 55th WG.

"You can either designate your donation to a local or national charity or have it undesignated," she added.

For more information about the CFC or to research charities, visit the Heart of the Midlands CFC website or contact your unit representative.

"It is very easy this year to give," Maj. Karas said. "You can either use the paper pledge forms from your keyworker or you can login online."

If you already know what charity you would like to contribute to, simply visit the CFC Nexus website or fill out the donation form with your unit representative.
