Fitness annex opens to dorm residents Published March 13, 2013 By Senior Airman Peter R.O. Danielson 55th Wing Public Affairs OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- 55th Wing leadership, Elite 4 Airman's Council members and dorm residents gathered at Turner Hall here March 6 to open the new dormitory fitness annex. The fitness annex is the result of a collaborative effort by the fitness center, civil engineering, dorm managers and the dorm residents themselves. "Two-fifths of the Airmen in the dorms don't drive," said Airman 1st Class Trevon Brooks, of the Elite 4 Airman's Council. "Their fitness is a huge priority, and getting this gym is a great step for our council." Dormitory residents without vehicles need to walk approximately two miles or wait for the shuttle during inclement weather to reach the Offutt Field House. The fitness annex features two stationary bikes, a stair climber, an elliptical machine and two treadmills. There is also a television and stereo system for workout videos or entertainment. This equipment was moved from the field house, which is currently the largest fitness center in the Department of Defense with more than $1 million in equipment. "I am so glad to work for leadership that puts your warrior campus as their number one priority," said Chief Master Sgt. William Thomaston, 55th Wing command chief. "I want you Airmen to treat this facility like you own it, because it's yours." The facility will be open 24 hours a day to all dorm residents.
