A member of Team Offutt received the Volunteer Excellence Award for their accomplishments in volunteer community service.

William Dudek, 55th Civil Engineer Squadron assistant fire chief, contributed over 500 hours over the past four years as a Certified State Fire Marshall Instructor.

He instructed and certified 30 members in various organizations within the firefighter career field. He has also raised over $60,000 through volunteer efforts for the Muscular Dystrophy Association fill the boot campaign.

“I am truly honored to be recognized for my community service and support of MDA and other charities,” William said.

Dudek is a Chief Officer of the volunteer fire department. He manages 50 firemen responsible for fire suppression and rescue services. Dudek also trains members in new technology, tactics, strategies and safe operations.

“His willingness to help others and self-giving attitude,” said David Eblin, 55th Civil Engineer Squadron installation fire chief, who nominated Dudek for the award. “I felt that Bill should be properly recognized for his many years of dedicated volunteer service work in the community.”

Being a volunteer firefighter has been a part of Dudek’s life since he was a teenager. His 22 years of service started in Maryland.

“Like most kids I wanted to be a fire fighter when I was growing up,” Dudek said. “I was given an opportunity at age 14 in my home town Sykesville.  I was a charter member of the newly formed Winfield Community Volunteer Fire department junior Firefighter program. I have been volunteering ever since.”

Dudek is lauded by coworkers as a positive example not only for them to emulate, but everybody in the community. His participation as a volunteer in events outside of firefighting such as the kayak safety patrol for physically/mentally Challenged Children through the Ollie Web Center, is one example of his widespread outreach and servant attitude.

“I am very proud of Bill for winning this prestigious once in a career award,” Eblin said. “This recognition simply lends to the high caliber reputation that our department enjoys throughout the community.”
