OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- The 55th Force Support Squadron Sustainment Services Flight is welcoming a new level of innovation to the boxed meal program. Now, customers are able to order flight and ground support meals from the Alert Campisi Dining Facility through a new virtual Meal Ordering system.
vMO, the result of a conversation Airman 1st Class Tashawnie Ormsby and Airman 1st Class Latasha Blake, Sustainment Services Flight food services journeymen, had with their leadership on the issues surrounding the previous boxed meal program, went live on Sept. 11, 2018. Before this new web-based ordering system, Team Offutt and its many visitors would hand in paper forms or send scanned copies via email to place an order.
While the legacy methods for ordering a boxed meal will still be accepted to support missions with non-traditional work centers, Team Offutt now has the opportunity to access a new top-of-the-line service. The dining facility plans to phase out the email ordering process to shift focus and training to this more efficient and streamlined advance in technology.
No other changes are planned for the boxed meal service, which is offered 24/7 and conducted out of the Alert Campisi Dining Facility.
Customers with Basic Allowance for Subsistence need to have cash ready at pick-up. Airmen on Essential Station Messing only need to add their DoD Identification Number to their order in the special instructions field to be able to collect their meals.
In preparation for this base-wide launch, the food service airmen trained on the system and conducted an open forum with their leadership to analyze the most effective way to teach customers about the service.
The feedback submitted during this forum was key to the program’s launch. It helped the NCOs who manage the workflow alongside their Airmen to produce meals which meet customer needs.
The new system uses a combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to connect tablets and printers to process the orders and produce records of the transactions.
vMO can be access through the 55th FSS Dining Facilities web page: https://offutt55fss.com/dining
Meal times and hours at the Ronald L. King Dining Facility will remain the same.
