Offutt to open two Little Free Libraries in base-housing areas Published May 8, 2017 By Drew Nystrom 55th Wing Public Affairs OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- Offutt will soon have a new library.Actually, two, but they might not be what you’re thinking.A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 10 a.m. to noon in the park on Rising View Blvd., for the first of two Free Little Libraries located in the base-housing area. The second library will be located in the Wherry housing area in “the Bowl.”During the ceremony, there will be free book giveaways, storytellers, face-painting and refreshments. To get to the event, while traveling west on Capehart Rd., take the second right past 25th St.The libraries, which look like miniature Rising View houses thanks to skill of Rising View employee and Free Little Library volunteer Drew Perrigo, are a result of a partnership between the 55th Force Support Squadron, the Suburban Rotary and Rising View management.“Books are such an important part of children’s development,” Michelle Pridell, 55th Force Support Squadron school liaison officer. “We wanted a place where our military kids can gather, pick up a good book and share the experience.Each little library will include a guest book, where children and parents can share their recommendations and a new Facebook page will be launched to advertise special reading events.
