The Offutt Diversity Team is hosting a sexual assault awareness event at 1 p.m. April 27 in the 557th Weather Wing auditorium here.

The event, titled “Got Consent?” will feature a skit performed by Sexual Assault Response Coordinator victim advocates, followed by a mock trial.

U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Limairy Baskin and Airman 1st Class Erin DePina, both with the 55th Comptroller Squadron here, organized the event.

“The whole purpose of getting this mock trial going was to provide NCOs and senior NCOs with what the FTAC classes get at Offutt – unless you’re an airman here, you probably haven’t been to a mock trial at Offutt,” Baskin said. “We wanted to do something different and more interactive than watching a screen or reading a pamphlet. Members can actually see people they know in those situations, even though they know they’re just acting.”

Following the skit and mock trial, attendees will be able to vote on the outcome of the trial using anonymous clickers.

The skit and mock trial are based on actual events provided by the Judge Advocate General at Offutt. After attendees have voted, the actual outcome of the trial will be revealed.

“When we ask people if they think the person is guilty or not guilty, they might actually be surprised by the outcome,” DePina said. “They might be surprised that it’s a lot worse than they expected – or the opposite.”

This event will also count toward quarterly Comprehensive Airman Fitness training. Members of Team Offutt can also gain credit toward Leadership Pathways recognition by registering for the event through the Leadership Pathways site.

“The events promote resiliency,” Baskin said. “You usually don’t get to see the entire process when someone you know is in this situation, sometimes you just know something happened. You don’t realize how much work it requires and how many squadrons are involved.”
