Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects many families in our Air Force community. The month of October is recognized as national Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Team Offutt is having events to bring attention to this problem.

The “Silent Witness Display” will be at the 55th Medical Group pharmacy Oct. 3 – 14 and at the Offutt Field House Oct. 17 - 31.

The “Clothesline Project” will be available for viewing at the Offutt Field House Oct. 3 – 14 and at the Bennie Davis Maintenance Facility Oct. 17 – 31.

The “Hidden Hurt Mobile Display,” will be in the front of the Offutt Field House Oct. 3 - 31.

Please take a moment to read the information posted and remember how violence affects those around us.

There will also be an initiative titled “Verizon Hope Line Cell Phone Drive.” This is an opportunity where you can drop off old cell phones to be donated to domestic violence victims in need. It will be located in the 2nd floor lobby of the Ehrling Bergquist clinic Oct. 3 – 14. The Cell Phone drive will relocate to the 55th Medical Group pharmacy from Oct. 17 – 31.

Despite misconceptions, men and women can be both victim and offender.  Domestic violence reaches across social, economic, cultural, ethnic, and religious lines. It comes in many forms: emotional, physical and sexual.  It involves one person having power and control over another.  It is not someone else’s problem…it is our problem and it has even happened right here at Offutt.

One of the forgotten victims of domestic violence are children. Many children who witness domestic violence show signs of anxiety, depression and anger, blame themselves for the abuse and act out aggressively.  That is why reporting is so important, even if you suspect you must report!  Stand up for these children who cannot help themselves.
