The 2023 tax season is rapidly approaching and since the holiday season is now behind us, why not search for those documents required to file your taxes completely and correctly? Once you’ve found them, your Offutt Tax Center is here to help you sort through your past year’s finances and properly file your income tax return for free.

Tax center service hours are from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday, from Jan. 23 - April 18, 2023.  Assistance is by appointment only. The tax center is in the basement of Offutt Law Center at 711 Nelson Drive.

Trained tax advisors at the base legal office can assist you in filling out your tax forms. Federal and State returns will be electronically filed for: all enlisted ranks, officers O-3 and below, retired members age 65 and older, disabled members with 50% or greater rating and income less than $100,000, Retired National Guard and reservists age 65 or older, and members deploying or returning from deployment of any rank.

Surviving spouses and their ID-carrying family members are also eligible. Tax assistance is also provided to National Guard and reserve personnel in ranks listed above who are on active duty orders or members who have been released from active duty or ordered to active duty for more than 30 days issued under mobilization authority.

All tax forms we assist in preparing will be accepted for electronic filing. We will prepare returns with one rental property, some small businesses, and one K-1 Form 1065 or a K-1 Form 1120S. We will not prepare returns for any virtual currency transactions or for anyone who is actively doing day trading.

If electronically filing a joint tax return, both the taxpayer and spouse must be present and photo ID is required for each individual. Spouses of deployed personnel may file on behalf of their spouse with a Power of Attorney or a signed Form 2848 (IRS Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative). This form is available at the tax center or online at www.irs.gov.  We are required to see Social Security cards for everyone on the return.

You must have all documents printed for the tax center. No information on phones, USBs, or computers!

Call the tax center at 294-3759 to make an appointment for preparation of your tax forms. The tax center will be taking calls for appointments starting Jan. 17.
