Chief Master Sgt. William W. Thomaston is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 55th Wing, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. He is the principal enlisted advisor to the Commander, 55th Wing, and is responsible for assessing factors influencing the mission readiness, utilization, morale, and quality of life of more than 5,100 enlisted Airmen assigned to the largest and most diverse wing in Air Combat Command, which consist of six groups and 32 squadrons. Other responsibilities include coordinating with 50 associate units, including United States Strategic Command, Air Force Weather Agency and more than 57,000 active duty members, civilians, dependents, and retirees on matters of administration and implementation of wing policies.

Chief Thomaston enlisted in the Air Force in 1986 and began his career as a medical service specialist. He has served in a variety of progressively challenging positions from squadron to Headquarters Air Force, including Independent Duty Medical Technician, Air Base Ground Defense Security Forces Instructor, Senior Flight Medic, Group Superintendent and Chief, Air Force Enlisted Force Development and as a liaison to the CMSAF at the Pentagon, Washington DC.

Prior to this assignment, Chief Thomaston was the command chief for the Air Force Flight Test Center and the 95th Air Base Wing at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
