Offutt Air Force Base is scheduled to host the 55th Wing Annual Awards Feb. 10 at the Patriot Club.

“The theme this year is ‘An Evening with the Stars,’ set kind of in the 1920s Jazz supper club era,” said Senior Master Sgt. Gloria Weatherspoon, co-chair of the event. “We wanted to utilize the vintage décor that’s already in the Patriot Club as the basis for the theme.”

Weatherspoon said the event will be different from past awards dinners.

“It’s going to definitely be about the nominees, celebrating them and our accomplishments together as a team,” she said.

Coming together as a wing for annual awards is vital, Weatherspoon said.

“I think it’s important to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of your fellow Airmen,” she said. “It’s important to share in someone’s joy when they make it to that level. It’s about what we were able to accomplish as a wing, because no one achieves this type of honor alone. It’s always about the team. Some individuals might stand out more than others, but it’s about celebrating each other’s accomplishments and being happy for your brothers and sisters in arms.”

Weatherspoon said the individuals who have volunteered this year have worked hard to make the ceremony a success.

“We have 36 volunteers, and they’ve stuck it out and committed this entire time,” she said. “This would not have been able to go off as well as it has without them. Without that team made up of everyone from airmen first classes to lieutenants, this year’s event wouldn’t be what it is.”

Other co-chairs include Senior Master Sgt. Anthony Thompson, Senior Master Sgt. Melissa Johnson, Master Sgt. Gabriel Herron and Master Sgt. Joshua Malyemezian.
