The Heartland of American Band is slated to host a free Veteran’s Day Concert Nov. 11, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Iowa Western Community College Art Center, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Tickets are available now and can be downloaded by clicking here.

“Our goal is to take the audience on a musical journey that honors the services and sacrifice of our military veterans, celebrates the patriotic spirit of the American people, and brings to light the memories, joys, and challenges of these periods of war,” said Airman 1st Class Aliyah Richling, HOAB singer.  “We'll explore moments in our military's history and use popular songs from each war era to tell more of the American story.”

The band’s performance will consist of songs from WWII through present day.

“The program will feature popular music from WWI, WWII, the Korean and Vietnam War eras, as well as songs that reflect our American heritage,” said Richling. “Our audience should expect to hear music spanning the decades - from the well-known Big Band hit "In the Mood" to Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" and everything in between. We'll also have a special performance of our military service songs, and at that time we will invite our veterans and their families to stand for their service song.”

For the band, the most rewarding part doesn’t come from the performance, but after.

“After every performance, I am amazed at the number of veterans in our audience,” Richling said. “We meet veterans of all ages, all branches, and from all war eras. It's a constant and beautiful reminder of Americans in our own communities who have bravely served in our military.”
